Inconel 718SPF Material Properties Overview

As a leading supplier and manufacturer in China, Arialloy supplies cost effective inconel 718SPF products for engineering and procurement.

Inconel 718SPF (UNS N07718 / W.Nr. 2.4668) is a precipitation hardenable nickel chromium iron superalloy containing niobium, molybdenum, titanium, and aluminum. It combines the corrosion resistance, high strength, and weldability of inconel 718 with a fine grained structure suited to superplastic forming. The fine grain condition is produced through controlled cold rolling and annealing, while reduced carbon and niobium limits help minimize carbide precipitation during forming.

In the mill annealed condition, the material offers high ductility, stable grain structure, and low forming stress at controlled strain rates. At approximately 954°C (1750°F), it can achieve substantial elongation while maintaining a controlled microstructure. The material is normally supplied as thin annealed sheet, and SAE AMS 5950 defines key requirements for the 718SPF grade. After forming, solution treatment and aging can develop gamma prime and gamma double prime precipitates for high tensile, creep, and rupture strength. Compared with conventional inconel 718 sheet, its controlled fine grain structure improves superplastic formability and retains useful tensile properties when forming is controlled.

Arialloy supports grade confirmation, sheet thickness and width selection, heat treatment, dimensional requirements, inspection, material test reports, and shipment documentation.

Inconel 718SPF Corrosion Resistance

Inconel 718SPF retains corrosion resistance of inconel 718 across many aqueous and chemical media. Nickel supports resistance in a range of inorganic and organic environments and helps resist chloride ion stress corrosion cracking.

Chromium improves resistance to oxidizing media and sulfur compounds, while molybdenum contributes to resistance against localized attack such as pitting. The annealed condition supports consistent behavior, but corrosion performance depends on heat treatment, surface condition, welding, exposure temperature, acidity, chloride concentration, and stress.

Inconel 718SPF Mechanical Properties

In the annealed condition, inconel 718SPF combines high tensile strength with ductility for superplastic forming. Representative data show a 0.2 percent yield strength of 852 MPa, tensile strength of 1121 MPa, and elongation of about 29 percent, with ASTM grain size near No. 13. After aging, yield strength can reach 1461 MPa and tensile strength about 1586 MPa, while elongation is about 14 percent.

Inconel 718SPF Temperature Characteristics

Inconel 718SPF is processed for superplastic forming at approximately 954°C (1750°F), where its controlled fine grain structure provides high strain capability and grain stability during the forming cycle.

After forming and aging, the alloy offers strong creep and stress rupture resistance at elevated temperature, with inconel 718 generally retaining useful strength to about 700°C (1300°F). Performance depends on heat treatment, grain growth, exposure time, applied stress, and atmosphere.

Inconel 718SPF prices are closely associated with the prices of the metals used in its composition. Nickel, chromium, iron, niobium, and molybdenum are major cost factors, and movements in raw material markets can therefore have a substantial effect on the price offered for the alloy.

Our own factory handles the smelting of inconel 718spf. We operate more than 30 vacuum smelting and electroslag remelting furnaces, with four furnace capacities available for different production scales. This setup allows us to produce smaller batches and therefore accept lower MOQs.

Certainly. We issue the MTR before shipping inconel 718spf, with the report prepared to meet applicable industry standards. It includes the material standard, chemical composition, mechanical properties, dimensions, and heat number.

We monitor inconel 718spf composition from the smelting stage onward. The input ratios are strictly controlled, chemistry is checked analytically, and finished material is examined by PMI. Independent laboratory analysis is available if extra assurance is needed.
