Incoloy 903 Material Properties Overview

As a manufacturer and supplier in China, Arialloy supplies competitively priced incoloy 903 products.

Incoloy 903 (UNS N19903) is a precipitation hardening alloy containing nickel, iron and cobalt. Its composition combines approximately 36 to 40% nickel and 13 to 17% cobalt with iron as the balance. Aluminum, titanium and niobium support precipitation strengthening, while gamma prime particles increase resistance to plastic deformation during aging. Niobium content ranges from 2.40 to 3.50% by weight. The alloy combines high tensile strength with low thermal expansion and a relatively stable elastic modulus. Its austenitic matrix remains stable at cryogenic temperatures, and the material exhibits ferromagnetic behavior below its Curie temperature. These characteristics give incoloy 903 a distinctive combination of dimensional stability, stiffness retention and mechanical strength across a broad temperature range.

Solution treatment followed by aging develops the alloy’s high strength. A two stage aging treatment includes eight hours at 720°C, furnace cooling at 56°C per hour to 620°C and a further eight hour hold, followed by air cooling. The alloy supports hot forming, machining and gas tungsten arc welding.

Incoloy 903 Corrosion Resistance

Incoloy 903 has modest overall corrosion resistance because its chemistry contains essentially no chromium and therefore does not develop the chromium rich protective oxide associated with more corrosion resistant incoloy grades. The alloy shows useful resistance to hydrogen environment embrittlement, while chloride exposure can sharply reduce corrosion fatigue strength.

At elevated temperatures, oxidation increases as temperature rises, with measurable attack between 540°C and 650°C. Its corrosion profile therefore emphasizes hydrogen resistance and structural stability rather than broad resistance to oxidizing and chloride containing environments.

Incoloy 903 Mechanical Properties

After solution treatment and aging, incoloy 903 exhibits a room temperature tensile strength of approximately 1310 MPa (190,000 psi), a 0.2% offset yield strength of 1103 MPa (160,000 psi) and 14% elongation. At 650°C, tensile strength is approximately 1000 MPa, yield strength is 896 MPa and elongation reaches 18%.

The aged alloy also exhibits a room temperature fracture toughness of approximately 111 MPa√m, combining high tensile strength with resistance to crack extension.

Incoloy 903 Temperature Characteristics

Incoloy 903 has a mean thermal expansion coefficient of approximately 7.2 µm/m/°C from room temperature to about 425°C. Its Curie temperature lies between 416°C and 471°C, with thermal expansion increasing above the magnetic transition. The elastic modulus remains relatively stable from minus 196°C to approximately 650°C.

Expansion behavior is reproducible during repeated heating and cooling, while the combination of low expansion and stable stiffness provides resistance to thermal fatigue and thermal shock. The alloy melts over a range of 1318°C to 1393°C.

If you accept our offer, send us your PO. We will issue the PI for payment and begin production after receiving the prepayment. We will notify you when manufacturing is finished.

We generally send the requested incoloy 903 quotation within 24 hours. If your requirements are unclear, incomplete, or cannot be quoted, our sales team will let you know promptly.

For customers purchasing incoloy 903 under our standard FOB terms, the usual practice is to designate a freight forwarder. We will coordinate with your forwarder and complete the local work needed for shipment. If preferred, we can take care of transportation and provide a separate freight quotation.

The price of incoloy 903 is influenced by changes in the cost of the raw metals required to produce it. Since nickel, iron, cobalt, and chromium and other alloying metals contribute to the final cost, fluctuations in these markets can result in changes to alloy prices.

Incoloy 903 is produced from material melted in house at our facility. Our more than 30 vacuum smelting and electroslag remelting furnaces cover batch sizes of 50 kg, 200 kg, 1,000 kg, and 5,000 kg. Because we have smaller-capacity equipment, we can accommodate lower volume requirements.

We provide the incoloy 903 test report in advance of shipment, with all key material details documented. These include the applicable standard, chemical composition, mechanical properties, dimensions, and heat number.

Our approach is to control the incoloy 903 material mix during smelting and continuously monitor composition through chemical analysis. PMI testing is then performed on the finished product, with third-party laboratory verification available if needed.
