Inconel 601GC Material Properties Overview

As a nickel alloy manufacturer in China, Arialloy supplies inconel 601GC products for industrial procurement.

Inconel 601GC is a nickel chromium iron alloy containing aluminum and small additions of zirconium and nitrogen. It is a modification of inconel 601 that combines resistance to oxidation with improved grain size stability at elevated temperatures. Nickel provides the basis of the alloy matrix, while chromium and aluminum support the formation of a protective oxide layer. Zirconium and nitrogen help restrict grain boundary movement, limiting the grain coarsening that can occur during extended heating. Maintaining a stable grain structure is particularly important for resistance to low cycle fatigue, where repeated thermal or mechanical loading can progressively damage the material. The GC designation refers to this grain control characteristic.

Typical physical properties include a density of 8.11 g/cm³ and a specific heat capacity of approximately 448 J/(kg·°C). In the annealed condition, the alloy combines useful strength with ductility. Its mechanical response should be evaluated together with grain stability, particularly when comparing materials that will experience prolonged exposure to heat.

Inconel 601GC Corrosion Resistance

Inconel 601GC resists oxidation through a protective surface scale supported by its nickel, chromium and aluminum content. This adherent layer helps reduce further oxidation and limits metal loss during exposure to oxidizing atmospheres.

During thermal cycling, resistance to scale spalling helps maintain surface protection as temperatures rise and fall. The alloy combines the oxidation resistance associated with inconel 601 with greater grain size stability. Actual corrosion rates depend on temperature, exposure duration, atmosphere composition and the presence of surface contaminants or deposits.

Inconel 601GC Mechanical Properties

At room temperature, annealed inconel 601GC typically exhibits a tensile strength of 586 to 689 MPa (85,000 to 100,000 psi) and a 0.2% offset yield strength of 207 to 345 MPa (30,000 to 50,000 psi). Elongation of 35 to 55% reflects useful ductility, with actual values influenced by the product form and annealing condition.

Inconel 601GC Temperature Characteristics

Inconel 601GC maintains grain size stability during prolonged heating, helping preserve resistance to low cycle fatigue under repeated thermal loading. Its nickel, chromium and aluminum content also supports strong resistance to oxidation at elevated temperatures.

The melting range is approximately 1301 to 1368°C (2374 to 2494°F), which is a physical property rather than a recommended service range. Allowable operating temperatures depend on applied stress, exposure duration, atmosphere and acceptable deformation, so creep performance and oxidation behavior must be considered together over the intended service period.
