Incoloy A-286 Material Properties Overview
As a leading supplier and manufacturer in China, Arialloy supplies competitively priced incoloy A286 products.
Incoloy A286 (UNS S66286 / W.Nr. 1.4980), also known as grade 660, is an age hardenable iron nickel chromium austenitic alloy containing molybdenum, titanium, aluminum, vanadium, and boron. Its balanced composition provides a strong combination of tensile strength, creep resistance, oxidation resistance, corrosion resistance, and ductility across a wide temperature range. Nickel and chromium support corrosion and oxidation resistance, while titanium, aluminum, and molybdenum contribute to precipitation strengthening and structural stability.
The alloy can be solution annealed and precipitation hardened to obtain different strength levels, and additional cold working can further increase tensile strength after aging. It retains useful toughness and ductility at cryogenic temperatures and offers good fabrication characteristics in the solution treated condition. incoloy A286 is available in bar, rod, wire, sheet, plate, strip, coil, tube, pipe, forging, fastener, and other customized forms.
Arialloy can supply material to ASTM, ASME, AMS, and other applicable specifications, including specified dimensions, heat treatment, surface condition, and inspection documentation. Its combination of high strength, moderate corrosion resistance, and reliable thermal stability makes incoloy A286 a practical choice for demanding metal products requiring consistent performance under mechanical load and elevated temperature.
Incoloy A286 Corrosion Resistance
Incoloy A286 offers good corrosion resistance in atmospheric and aqueous environments, broadly comparable to 316 and 316L stainless steel. Chromium forms a protective passive film, nickel improves stability in reducing conditions, and molybdenum helps resist localized attack. It also resists oxidation and scaling at elevated temperatures.
Performance depends on chemistry, temperature, stress, surface condition, and heat treatment. Like other austenitic alloys, it may be susceptible to chloride stress corrosion cracking under severe combined conditions. Clean surfaces and proper descaling help preserve corrosion resistance after fabrication.
Incoloy A-286 Mechanical Properties
In the solution treated condition, incoloy A286 provides good ductility and moderate strength for fabrication. Precipitation hardening increases yield strength, tensile strength, and hardness through titanium and aluminum precipitates.
Typical room temperature tensile strength is about 620 MPa in this condition, while aged material can reach at least 965 MPa. Cold working before aging can produce higher strength, but ductility decreases. The alloy also provides good creep and stress rupture strength at elevated temperatures. Exact values depend on product form, specification, and delivery condition.
Incoloy A286 Temperature Characteristics
Incoloy A286 maintains high mechanical strength to approximately 538°C (1000°F) for long term service. Useful strength and corrosion resistance can extend to about 704°C (1300°F), depending on stress and exposure time. Oxidation resistance remains strong in continuous service to 816°C (1500°F) and intermittent exposure to 982°C (1800°F).
It retains ductility and toughness down to cryogenic temperatures of 196°C below zero. Aging at about 718°C (1325°F) for 16 hours after solution annealing develops the precipitation strengthened structure. Service limits depend on loading, atmosphere, heat treatment, and service life.
