Inconel 600 Material Properties Overview

As a leading supplier & manufacturer in China, Arialloy supply cost effective inconel 600 Products.

Inconel alloy 600 (UNS N06600 / W. Nr. 2.4816) is a nickel chromium iron alloy offering excellent resistance to corrosion and oxidation across a wide range of demanding environments. Its high nickel (Ni) content provides good resistance under reducing conditions and excellent resistance to alkaline solutions and chloride ion stress corrosion cracking. Chromium (Cr) improves resistance to oxidizing media and sulfur compounds, while the balanced nickel chromium composition provides good resistance to carburization and high temperature oxidation. The alloy is nonmagnetic and maintains useful mechanical properties over a wide range of temperatures.

Inconel alloy 600 combines high strength, good ductility, toughness, and good fabrication characteristics. It is not precipitation hardenable and can be strengthened by cold working. The alloy maintains useful mechanical properties at both cryogenic and elevated temperatures and offers good resistance to high purity water, neutral and alkaline salt solutions, steam, and many organic and inorganic compounds. Its good forming and welding characteristics further contribute to its versatility in demanding service conditions.

Inconel 600 is widely used in chemical processing, heat treatment, furnace equipment, nuclear engineering, aerospace, and food processing applications. Its combination of corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, mechanical strength, and fabricability makes it suitable for components exposed to corrosive environments and elevated temperatures.

Inconel 600 Corrosion Resistance

Inconel alloy 600 offers excellent resistance to general corrosion, chloride ion stress corrosion cracking, caustic corrosion, and corrosion in high purity water. Its high nickel content provides strong resistance under reducing conditions and alkaline media, while chromium improves resistance to oxidizing environments and sulfur compounds.

It also offers good resistance to neutral and alkaline salt solutions, steam, and mixtures of steam, air, and carbon dioxide. The alloy provides useful resistance to dry chlorine and hydrogen chloride at moderately elevated temperatures, as well as good resistance to carburization and oxidation. However, strong oxidizing solutions such as hot concentrated nitric acid can be aggressive toward Inconel alloy 600, so corrosion performance should be evaluated according to the specific chemical environment, concentration, temperature, and exposure conditions.

Inconel 600 Mechanical Properties

In the annealed condition, inconel 600 typically exhibits tensile strengths of 80,000 to 100,000 psi (550 to 690 MPa), with yield strengths of 25,000 to 50,000 psi (170 to 345 MPa). Elongation generally ranges from 35 to 55%, providing good ductility and allowing the alloy to be readily formed and fabricated.

Cold working can significantly increase the tensile and yield strength of Inconel alloy 600. The alloy also maintains good toughness and ductility at cryogenic temperatures and useful mechanical properties at elevated temperatures. It has good hot and cold forming characteristics and can be welded using conventional welding processes.

Values for mechanical properties reported in technical publications are typical and may vary according to product form, thickness, heat treatment, and cold working condition. Such values should not be used for specification purposes unless stated as minimum or maximum requirements.

Inconel 600 Temperature Characteristics

Inconel 600 maintains useful properties from cryogenic temperatures to elevated temperatures approaching 2000°F (1093°C) under suitable conditions. Its high nickel and chromium contents provide a combination of oxidation resistance, corrosion resistance, and mechanical stability over a broad temperature range.

At elevated temperatures, chromium contributes to the formation of a protective oxide layer that improves resistance to oxidation and scaling. The alloy also provides good resistance to carburization and corrosive gas atmospheres. Studies of oxidation behavior show that protective oxide films containing chromium oxide contribute significantly to its oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures.

Inconel 600 is generally offered at FOB pricing, so the normal arrangement is for the customer to nominate a freight forwarder. We will cooperate with that forwarder to complete the required operations locally. If you would like us to handle the logistics instead, we can arrange transportation and obtain a freight quotation for you.

The price of inconel 600 does not depend only on processing costs; it is also heavily influenced by raw metal prices. Key alloying metals such as nickel, chromium, and iron play an important role in determining cost, so changes in their prices can affect the price of the finished alloy.

We perform inconel 600 smelting internally, supported by a furnace fleet of more than 30 vacuum and electroslag remelting furnaces. The available furnace sizes are 50 kg, 200 kg, 1,000 kg, and 5,000 kg. This gives us the production flexibility needed to accept smaller minimum quantities.

Our inconel 600 material test reports are prepared according to industry requirements and supplied before shipment. They include chemical composition, mechanical properties, dimensions, material standards, and heat identification for traceability and compliance verification.

For inconel 600, we control the proportions of the input materials during smelting and use chemical analysis to monitor chemistry changes. Finished products are checked by PMI, while independent lab analysis is available for customers seeking additional verification.
