Incoloy 028 Material Properties Overview

As a leading supplier and manufacturer in China, Arialloy supplies cost effective incoloy 028 products.

Incoloy 028, UNS N08028 and W.Nr. 1.4563, is a highly alloyed austenitic iron nickel chromium alloy containing molybdenum and copper. Its high chromium content supports resistance to oxidizing media, while nickel improves structural stability and resistance to stress corrosion cracking. Molybdenum strengthens resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, and copper improves resistance to reducing acids, especially sulfuric acid.

The combined chemistry gives incoloy 028 particularly strong resistance to phosphoric acid, sulfuric acid, seawater, chloride containing media, organic acids, and many salt solutions. The alloy also provides moderate strength with high ductility, good impact toughness, and reliable fabrication characteristics. Typical room temperature properties combine a yield strength around 220 MPa or higher with tensile strength in the 500 to 750 MPa range and elongation around 35 to 40% or higher. At elevated temperatures, incoloy 028 retains useful strength, oxidation resistance, and stable austenitic behavior.

Arialloy recommends incoloy 028 to buyers who prioritize strong corrosion resistance, ductility, weldability, and balanced mechanical performance.

Incoloy 028 Corrosion Resistance

Incoloy 028 provides excellent overall corrosion resistance in both reducing and oxidizing media. Its chromium, nickel, molybdenum, and copper balance gives particularly strong resistance to sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid, together with good resistance to nitric acid, organic acids, seawater, chlorides, alkalies, and salts.

The alloy also resists pitting, crevice corrosion, intergranular attack, and stress corrosion cracking. Its stable passive film and high alloy content help maintain surface protection against aggressive acids, chloride ions, and mixed corrosive media.

Incoloy 028 Mechanical Properties

Incoloy 028 combines moderate strength with high ductility and good toughness. Typical room temperature values include a 0.2% proof strength of at least 220 MPa, tensile strength of about 500 to 750 MPa, and elongation of approximately 35 to 40% or higher. The austenitic structure supports strong impact toughness at room and low temperatures.

Cold working can substantially increase strength, while the alloy maintains useful formability, fatigue resistance, and good welding behavior for fabricated products.

Incoloy 028 Temperature Characteristics

Incoloy 028 retains useful mechanical strength and structural stability through moderate elevated temperatures. Minimum tensile strength remains around 440 MPa at 200°C, 390 MPa at 300°C, and 350 MPa at 500°C, while 0.2% proof strength decreases gradually from about 160 MPa at 200°C to 120 MPa at 500°C. Its high chromium content supports oxidation resistance, while nickel stabilizes the austenitic matrix.

The alloy combines corrosion resistance with dependable strength retention and stable thermal behavior across a broad temperature range.
