Inconel 751 Material Properties Overview
As a manufacturer and supplier in China, Arialloy supplies competitively priced inconel 751 products.
Inconel 751 (UNS N07751) is a precipitation hardenable nickel and chromium alloy containing titanium, aluminum, and niobium. Its composition includes at least 70% nickel plus cobalt, 14% to 17% chromium, and 5% to 9% iron. Aluminum and titanium promote gamma prime precipitation within the austenitic matrix, increasing strength and hardness after aging. Titanium contents of 2.0% to 2.6% complement the 0.9% to 1.5% aluminum addition in supporting this strengthening response. Chromium contributes to oxidation resistance, while the hardened structure retains useful strength and hot hardness at elevated temperatures. Final properties depend on the processing route, aging conditions, and the temperature and duration of subsequent exposure.
Hot working is generally performed between 980°C and 1205°C. Machining before aging allows most material removal to occur before the final hardness is established. A small permanent contraction occurs during precipitation treatment, so finishing after aging helps achieve accurate dimensions. Heat treatment selection should reflect the required balance of strength, ductility, and dimensional stability.
Inconel 751 Corrosion Resistance
Inconel 751 offers good resistance to oxidation and corrosive gases at elevated temperatures. Lead oxide screening tests at 913°C demonstrate resistance to attack, and the alloy also resists certain environments containing sulfur, bromine, and chlorine.
Performance depends on gas chemistry, temperature, and surface deposits. Sulfates combined with carbon can promote sulfidation, while mixtures of sulfates and chlorides can accelerate intergranular attack. Corrosion resistance should therefore be assessed under representative conditions, particularly where molten salts, reducing atmospheres, or persistent deposits may affect the protective surface layer.

Inconel 751 Temperature Characteristics
Inconel 751 combines elevated temperature strength with resistance to oxidation, but its load carrying capacity decreases as temperature rises. After direct aging at 732°C for two hours, typical tensile strength decreases from 860 MPa at 732°C to 554 MPa at 816°C.
Prolonged overheating can coarsen strengthening precipitates and reduce hardness and creep resistance. The appropriate operating temperature therefore depends on stress, exposure duration, atmosphere, and heat treatment.
