Incoloy 890 Material Properties Overview
As a manufacturer and supplier in China, Arialloy supplies incoloy 890 products with customized dimensions, surface finishes, and material inspection services.
Incoloy alloy 890 (UNS N08890) is a solid solution alloy with a single phase structure, composed primarily of nickel, iron, and chromium. Its nominal composition includes approximately 42.5% nickel, 25% chromium, 1.8% silicon, 1.5% molybdenum, and 0.4% niobium, with iron forming the balance. This combination provides elevated temperature strength together with resistance to oxidation, carburization, and sulfidation.
The alloy retains the high chromium content associated with incoloy 803 and incorporates silicon, molybdenum, and niobium to enhance its performance. Chromium and silicon improve resistance to aggressive hot atmospheres, while molybdenum and niobium contribute to strength and resistance to creep. Its chemistry brings together resistance to surface deterioration and mechanical deformation at elevated temperatures.
Incoloy 890 is normally supplied in the annealed condition and can be formed using conventional fabrication techniques. Its combination of formability, weldability, and thermal performance supports the manufacture of both tubular and flat products.
Incoloy 890 Corrosion Resistance
Incoloy 890 offers strong resistance to oxidation, carburization, and sulfidation. Its chromium and silicon contents enhance resistance to chemical attack at elevated temperatures and reduce deterioration in aggressive gaseous atmospheres.
Comparative tests at 1000°C and 1100°C show greater resistance to oxidation and carburization than incoloy 803 and incoloy 800HT. The alloy exhibits lower mass changes during exposure to gases containing hydrogen and methane, as well as air containing water vapor, demonstrating its resistance to carbon uptake and oxidative degradation.
Incoloy 890 Mechanical Properties
In the solution annealed condition, incoloy 890 combines tensile strength with good ductility. At approximately 22°C, hot rolled plate has a typical tensile strength of 652 MPa, a 0.2% offset yield strength of 272 MPa, and elongation of 46.6%.
Solution annealed cold drawn tubing exhibits a typical tensile strength of 652 MPa, yield strength of 334 MPa, and elongation of 46.5%. Chromium and carbon contribute to strengthening, while molybdenum and niobium provide additional strength at elevated temperatures.
Incoloy 890 Temperature Characteristics
Incoloy 890 offers resistance to oxidation, carburization, and sulfidation at temperatures up to approximately 1200°C. Molybdenum and niobium enhance its resistance to creep and stress rupture above approximately 980°C, contributing to its ability to withstand sustained loading at elevated temperatures.
The alloy has a melting range of approximately 1309°C to 1383°C. Its mean coefficient of thermal expansion increases from approximately 14.47 μm/m/°C between 26°C and 100°C to 16.88 μm/m/°C between 26°C and 700°C, reflecting progressive dimensional expansion during heating.

We handle incoloy 890 melting within our own factory. The plant is equipped with over 30 vacuum smelting and electroslag remelting furnaces of four different capacities. This broad equipment selection enables us to match the melting capacity to the customer’s required volume and accept smaller orders.
Yes, we make the incoloy 890 material test report available before shipment. It is prepared to the applicable industry standards and documents chemistry, mechanical properties, dimensions, and heat number.
For incoloy 890, the input material ratios are controlled during melting and chemical analysis is performed to track the alloy chemistry. Once the finished product is complete, PMI testing is conducted, and independent laboratory analysis can be added for further assurance.
