Incoloy 864 Material Properties Overview

As a manufacturer and supplier in China, Arialloy supplies incoloy 864 products for industrial procurement.

Incoloy 864 (UNS S35135) is an alloy of nickel, iron, chromium and molybdenum, with additions of silicon and titanium. It contains 30 to 38% nickel, 20 to 25% chromium, 4.0 to 4.8% molybdenum, 0.6 to 1.0% silicon and 0.4 to 1.0% titanium, with iron forming the balance. The alloy combines resistance to hot salt attack and chloride corrosion with good fatigue performance. Molybdenum reduces the depth of hot salt attack, while silicon helps reduce metal loss during repeated heating and salt exposure. Titanium contributes to the alloy’s strengthening response following cold deformation and thermal exposure.

Its work hardening rate is similar to that of austenitic stainless steels, allowing strength to increase through cold deformation. Annealed material offers substantial elongation, and the alloy exhibits good fatigue resistance at both room and elevated temperatures.

The alloy has a density of approximately 8.02 g/cm³ and low magnetic permeability. Its electrical resistivity is about 1.04 μΩ·m at 21°C.

Incoloy 864 Corrosion Resistance

Incoloy 864 offers resistance to hot salt corrosion, pitting and chloride stress corrosion cracking. Its corrosion resistance extends to alternating wet and dry chloride exposure, including the combination of aqueous corrosion and salt attack associated with repeated heating.

The alloy also resists oxidation and intergranular salt attack at elevated temperatures. Molybdenum and silicon improve resistance to hot salt damage by reducing penetration and metal loss. Comparative hot salt testing demonstrates better corrosion resistance than stainless steels such as 321 and 316Ti.

Incoloy 864 Mechanical Properties

Annealed incoloy 864 sheet measuring 0.15 to 1.6 mm thick has typical room temperature tensile strength of 648 MPa, 0.2% offset yield strength of 276 MPa and elongation of 44%. Moderate yield strength and substantial elongation provide good formability.

Cold working raises yield strength through strain hardening. The alloy also exhibits good fatigue resistance at room and elevated temperatures, combining resistance to repeated deformation with the ductility needed for forming operations.

Incoloy 864 Temperature Characteristics

Incoloy 864 exhibits resistance to cyclic oxidation, including during testing at 950°C with repeated heating and cooling. Its mean coefficient of thermal expansion increases from approximately 14.7 μm/(m·°C) between 21 and 100°C to 16.8 μm/(m·°C) between 21 and 700°C.

Thermal conductivity rises from approximately 11 W/(m·K) at 23°C to 23 W/(m·K) at 700°C. Elastic modulus decreases from about 195 GPa at 20°C to 145 GPa at 700°C. The alloy has a melting range of approximately 1353 to 1393°C.

The standard way we handle incoloy 864 shipping is based on FOB terms. Customers normally appoint their own freight forwarder, and we support that forwarder with the necessary local procedures. For a more convenient option, we can arrange the transportation ourselves and confirm the freight charge.

The cost structure of an alloy is closely linked to the value of its constituent metals. For superalloys, high value metals such as nickel, iron, chromium, and aluminum can play a major role in determining price. Their fluctuations can consequently lead to fluctuations in alloy pricing.

Our facility gives us direct control over incoloy 864 smelting. We have more than 30 vacuum smelting and electroslag remelting furnaces, including smaller 50 kg units as well as 200 kg, 1,000 kg, and 5,000 kg equipment. This combination lets us accept production quantities below what many large-scale facilities can accommodate.

Certainly. Before shipping incoloy 864, we provide documentation showing the material standard and relevant test information. The report includes chemical composition, mechanical properties, dimensions, and heat number.

We verify incoloy 864 chemistry during both production and final inspection. The smelting ratios are controlled, chemical analysis monitors composition, and PMI testing is performed on the completed material. A third-party lab can conduct additional analysis when required.
