Inconel 690 Material Properties Overview

As a leading supplier and manufacturer in China, Arialloy supplies cost effective inconel 690 products.

Inconel 690 (UNS N06690 / W.Nr. 2.4642) is an austenitic nickel chromium iron alloy containing 27.0 to 31.0 percent chromium, at least 58.0 percent nickel, and 7.0 to 11.0 percent iron. The high chromium level supports resistance to oxidizing media and hot gases, while nickel contributes to resistance against stress corrosion cracking in chloride solutions and alkaline media. The alloy combines corrosion resistance with useful strength, ductility, and metallurgical stability. It has a face centered cubic solid solution structure, and carbon is limited to 0.05 percent. Its properties vary with product form, dimensions, heat treatment, and cold reduction. Solution annealing supports ductility and corrosion performance, while selected stabilization treatments can adjust carbide distribution at grain boundaries.

Arialloy supplies inconel 690 tube, pipe, sheet, plate, strip, bar, rod, wire, and forgings to specified dimensions, standards, delivery conditions, and inspection requirements.

Inconel 690 Corrosion Resistance

Inconel 690 resists many oxidizing acids, particularly nitric acid and mixtures containing nitric and hydrofluoric acids. Its high chromium content promotes surface passivation, while nickel contributes to resistance against stress corrosion cracking in aqueous environments.

In nitric acid, laboratory tests report rates below 1 mpy through 70 percent concentration at temperatures up to 80°C. The alloy also resists phosphoric acid through 85 percent at 80°C and cracking in hot water, chloride solutions, and alkaline media. Sodium hydroxide performance depends on concentration, temperature, and material condition.

Inconel 690 Mechanical Properties

In the annealed condition, inconel 690 combines tensile strength with substantial ductility. Typical room temperature results for the various product forms show tensile strengths of 648 to 758 MPa, 0.2 percent offset yield strengths of 282 to 461 MPa, and elongations of 39 to 52 percent. Cold working increases strength and hardness but reduces ductility.

Inconel 690 Temperature Characteristics

Inconel 690 combines resistance to oxidation and sulfidation with useful strength and good metallurgical stability at elevated temperatures. Cyclic oxidation tests at 1095°C demonstrate resistance to attack in hot air. Annealed specimens exposed at 565 to 760°C for approximately 12,000 hours retained substantial ductility and impact toughness when subsequently tested at room temperature.

Strength decreases as temperature rises, while creep behavior depends on stress and exposure duration. Operating temperatures therefore require evaluation of the atmosphere, loading, and material condition rather than oxidation resistance alone.

To proceed with an inconel 690 purchase, send your requirements to sales@arialloy.com or complete the form at the bottom of this page. Our team will issue a quotation based on your specifications. Once you confirm the quotation, send us your PO. We will prepare the PI, and production will commence after the prepayment is received. We will notify you when the material is completed.

Our experienced sales team generally turns around inconel 690 quotations within 24 hours. If your inquiry requires clarification or cannot be quoted, we will inform you as soon as we determine this.

Our FOB based inconel 690 pricing normally assumes that the customer will appoint a freight forwarder. We will cooperate with your nominated forwarder to ensure the necessary local arrangements are completed. If you need a more convenient option, we can also arrange shipping directly and quote the related freight charges.

The cost of inconel 690 is influenced by fluctuations in the markets for its raw metals. Nickel and chromium and other alloying elements all contribute to the material cost. Significant changes in these metal prices can consequently lead to changes in the alloy price.

Our inconel 690 is melted within our own production facilities. We have installed more than 30 vacuum and electroslag remelting furnaces in four different sizes. Their capacities range from 50 kg to 5,000 kg, giving us the ability to adjust production to different batch requirements and accept smaller MOQs.

We issue an inconel 690 material test report before shipment to document conformity with the required standards. It includes chemical composition, mechanical properties, dimensions, material standard information, and the relevant heat number.

The chemistry of inconel 690 is monitored throughout production by controlling the material ratios and performing chemical analysis. Once manufacturing is complete, PMI testing is used for verification, with third party testing offered when additional evidence is required.
