Inconel 706 Material Properties Overview

As a China based supplier and manufacturer, Arialloy supplies cost effective inconel 706 products for industrial procurement.

Inconel 706 (UNS N09706) is a precipitation hardenable nickel iron chromium superalloy that combines high mechanical strength with good fabricability and improved machinability. Its chromium content supports oxidation and corrosion resistance, while controlled additions of niobium, titanium and aluminum produce strengthening gamma double prime and gamma prime precipitates during aging. The alloy has characteristics similar to inconel 718, but its lower flow stress, better hot workability and easier machining make it suitable for larger ingots and forgings. It also offers good weldability and resistance to strain age cracking.

Arialloy supplies inconel 706 in round bar, billet, strip, wire rod and forging stock, subject to the required size, delivery condition and material specification. Solution treatment followed by aging can be selected for tensile strength, or an intermediate stabilization treatment can be included when improved creep rupture performance is required.

Inconel 706 Corrosion Resistance

Inconel 706 offers good resistance to oxidation and general corrosion over a broad range of temperatures and environments. Chromium promotes a protective oxide film, while the nickel iron matrix contributes to stability in reducing conditions. Resistance is rated good in acetic acid, sodium hydroxide and salt spray, moderate in nitric acid, phosphoric acid and seawater, and restricted in sulfuric acid.

Inconel 706 Mechanical Properties

In the solution treated and aged condition, typical forged bar values at room temperature include a 0.2% yield strength of 157 to 160 ksi (1083 to 1103 MPa), a tensile strength of 188 to 189 ksi (1296 to 1303 MPa), and elongation of 23 to 26%. At 1200°F (649°C), typical yield strength is 123 to 125 ksi (848 to 862 MPa), tensile strength is 146 to 148 ksi (1007 to 1020 MPa), and elongation is about 25%.

Inconel 706 Temperature Characteristics

Inconel 706 combines precipitation strengthening with useful strength from cryogenic temperatures to about 1200°F (650°C). Its creep rupture performance is reported up to approximately 1300°F (704°C) under specified conditions.

Gamma prime and gamma double prime precipitates resist dislocation movement and delay creep deformation. Prolonged exposure near or above 1300°F can cause precipitate coarsening, overaging and loss of tensile and creep rupture strength.

The regular price we offer for inconel 706 is calculated on an FOB basis. Therefore, transportation is normally coordinated by the buyer through a designated forwarder, with our cooperation on local operations. If requested, we can also arrange the shipment and provide the applicable freight amount.

Raw material pricing plays an important role in determining the cost of inconel 706. The market prices of metals such as nickel, iron, chromium, niobium, and titanium directly influence the cost structure of the alloy. When these metals become more or less expensive, alloy prices can change accordingly.

Rather than purchasing the melted material externally, we smelt inconel 706 ourselves. Our factory is equipped with more than 30 vacuum smelting and electroslag remelting furnaces in four capacities. This equipment configuration allows us to choose a suitable batch size and maintain a lower MOQ.

Yes, material certification for inconel 706 is provided prior to delivery. The documentation follows industry standards and contains the material standard, chemical composition, mechanical properties, dimensions, and heat number.

Our inconel 706 quality control procedure starts with strict material ratio control during smelting, followed by chemical composition analysis. After completion, PMI testing is conducted, while an independent laboratory can perform additional chemical testing upon request.
