Hastelloy X Material Properties Overview

As a manufacturer and supplier in China, Arialloy provides cost effective hastelloy X products.

Hastelloy X (UNS N06002 / W.Nr. 2.4665) is an austenitic nickel alloy containing substantial additions of chromium, iron and molybdenum. Its composition typically includes approximately 22% chromium, 18% iron and 9% molybdenum, with nickel forming the balance. Chromium promotes resistance to oxidation, while molybdenum contributes to solid solution strengthening and helps sustain strength at elevated temperatures. The alloy combines resistance to hot gaseous environments with good ductility and practical fabrication characteristics. Wrought products are generally supplied in the solution annealed condition. Heating to approximately 2150°F (1177°C), followed by rapid cooling, helps establish a useful balance of strength and ductility. Subsequent processing and thermal exposure can influence the final mechanical properties.

The alloy can be formed by hot or cold working and joined using gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, shielded metal arc and resistance welding. Matching hastelloy X filler metal is commonly selected for compatible weld deposits. Thorough cleaning before welding helps prevent contamination, while suitable welding parameters support sound joints and consistent fabrication quality.

Arialloy supplies hastelloy X Sheet, Plate, Strip, Bar, Rod, Wire, Pipe and Tube, with dimensions and delivery conditions matched to purchasing requirements.

Hastelloy X Corrosion Resistance

Hastelloy X provides resistance to oxidation and attack in oxidizing, reducing and neutral gaseous atmospheres. Its chromium content supports a protective oxide film that adheres to the surface and limits further oxidation at elevated temperatures.

The alloy also resists carburization and nitriding, helping limit carbon and nitrogen penetration that can alter mechanical properties. Resistance to stress corrosion cracking complements these properties, although performance varies with the chemical environment. Temperature, exposure duration and the presence of contaminants or deposits also influence the extent of attack.

Hastelloy X Mechanical Properties

In the solution annealed condition, hastelloy X Plate exhibits a typical room temperature tensile strength of approximately 760 MPa (110,200 psi), a 0.2% yield strength of 340 MPa (49,300 psi), and an elongation of about 49%. This combination provides substantial strength while retaining ductility for forming. Cold working increases strength and hardness while reducing available ductility.

These typical values are provided for reference only. Actual properties depend on product form, dimensions, processing history and the applicable specification.

Hastelloy X Temperature Characteristics

Hastelloy X combines oxidation resistance with useful creep and stress rupture strength at elevated temperatures. Oxidation resistance extends to approximately 2200°F (1204°C), although permissible operating temperatures depend on stress, atmosphere and exposure duration.

Prolonged exposure at temperatures between approximately 1200°F and 1600°F (650°C and 870°C) can promote precipitation of secondary phases and reduce room temperature ductility and impact toughness. Its melting range is approximately 2300°F to 2470°F (1260°C to 1355°C). As temperature and exposure time increase, allowable stresses decrease and creep becomes progressively more important.

Hastelloy X pricing is closely connected to fluctuations in the raw metal market. The cost of key metallic elements such as nickel, chromium, iron, and molybdenum has a significant influence on the alloy price, meaning changes in these metal markets can lead to corresponding price changes for hastelloy x.

The hastelloy x material is smelted in-house using our own furnace resources. Our factory is equipped with over 30 vacuum smelting and electroslag remelting furnaces, covering 50 kg, 200 kg, 1,000 kg, and 5,000 kg capacities. This combination of in-house smelting and multiple furnace sizes gives us the flexibility to accept smaller MOQs.

Yes, we provide hastelloy x material test reports prior to shipment in accordance with applicable industry standards. Each report documents the material standard, chemical composition, mechanical properties, dimensions, and heat number, serving as evidence that the supplied material complies with the specified requirements.

For hastelloy x, we strictly manage the material ratios during smelting and use chemical analysis to monitor composition throughout production. Once the finished material is ready, PMI testing is performed. If greater assurance is required, we can submit the material to a third party laboratory for final chemical analysis and provide the test results.
