Incoloy 909 Material Properties Overview

As a manufacturer and supplier in China, Arialloy supplies cost effective incoloy 909 products.

Incoloy 909 (UNS N19909) is an alloy of nickel, iron and cobalt that combines high strength with low thermal expansion and stable elastic properties. Niobium and titanium support precipitation hardening, producing fine strengthening particles during aging. A small silicon addition improves resistance to notch rupture and changes the precipitation behavior within the microstructure. These features give the alloy a favorable balance of tensile strength, rupture performance and dimensional stability.

The alloy retains substantial strength at temperatures up to approximately 650°C, while its elastic modulus changes relatively little across this range. Low expansion and good thermal conductivity contribute to resistance against thermal fatigue and thermal shock. Its composition excludes chromium to preserve the characteristic expansion behavior. The absence of chromium increases oxidation susceptibility, and protective coatings help shield the surface from oxygen exposure. Resistance to hydrogen embrittlement provides another distinctive material characteristic.

Arialloy recommends incoloy 909 for customers who place greater priority on controlled thermal expansion, mechanical strength, fatigue resistance, and dimensional stability than on broad corrosion resistance.

Incoloy 909 Corrosion Resistance

Incoloy 909 contains essentially no chromium, giving it lower general oxidation resistance than chromium rich nickel alloys. Its silicon addition improves resistance to stress accelerated grain boundary oxidation and supports lower creep crack growth together with better notch rupture behavior.

The alloy also resists embrittlement in high pressure hydrogen. Its corrosion characteristics are distinguished by resistance to grain boundary oxidation and hydrogen embrittlement, while its overall resistance to aggressive acids, chlorides, and strongly oxidizing media is lower than that of chromium rich corrosion resistant incoloy grades.

Incoloy 909 Mechanical Properties

After solution treatment and aging, incoloy 909 combines high strength with useful ductility. Typical values at 20°C are 1276 MPa tensile strength, 1034 MPa yield strength at 0.2% offset and 15% elongation. At 650°C, corresponding values are 1034 MPa, 862 MPa and 25%, respectively.

Niobium and titanium contribute to precipitation strengthening, while silicon improves notch rupture performance. The alloy also exhibits greater fatigue strength and slower creep crack growth than incoloy 903 during testing at elevated temperatures.

Incoloy 909 Temperature Characteristics

Incoloy 909 has a thermal expansion coefficient of approximately 7.7 µm/m/°C from room temperature to the Curie region near 425°C. Above this transition, expansion increases as the alloy changes from ferromagnetic to paramagnetic behavior. Its elastic modulus remains nearly constant up to approximately 650°C, helping preserve stiffness and limit elastic deformation during heating.

The combination of low expansion, stable elastic properties and relatively high thermal conductivity provides strong resistance to thermal fatigue and thermal shock. Substantial mechanical strength is retained at temperatures approaching 650°C (1200°F).

Our team can assist you with the complete incoloy 909 purchasing process. Send your requirements to sales@arialloy.com or use the inquiry form below. We will prepare a quotation for your review. Once you approve it, send your PO. We will issue the PI for payment and begin production after the prepayment is received. We will contact you when the material is ready.

Our normal quotation response time is within 24 hours. For incoloy 909 inquiries, our sales team will provide the corresponding quotation or promptly notify you if more information is needed or a quote cannot be provided.

Our standard incoloy 909 terms are FOB, under which the buyer usually designates the freight forwarder. We will cooperate with your selected logistics provider for the necessary local handling. Should you prefer us to arrange the shipment, we can do so and quote the applicable transportation cost.

When the market prices of key alloying metals move, the price of the alloy can move as well. Nickel, iron, cobalt, chromium, and titanium are important raw material cost drivers for superalloys, which is why their fluctuations can be reflected in incoloy 909 pricing.

We maintain our own incoloy 909 smelting facilities, so the material does not have to be sourced as a pre smelted product. With over 30 furnaces across four capacities, we can handle everything from 50 kg batches to 5,000 kg batches. This production flexibility helps us keep minimum order requirements relatively low.

Our incoloy 909 material certification is provided before shipment and follows the required industry standards. It includes the material standard, chemical analysis, mechanical properties, dimensions, and heat number.

During production of incoloy 909, we monitor chemistry by controlling the material ratios and conducting analytical checks. The completed material is verified through PMI testing, while third-party laboratory analysis is available for customers requiring additional confirmation.
