Inconel 725 Material Properties Overview

As a manufacturer and supplier in China, Arialloy supplies cost effective inconel 725 products.

Inconel alloy 725 (UNS N07725) is a precipitation hardenable nickel alloy containing chromium, molybdenum and niobium, with titanium additions that support strengthening during aging. Its composition includes 55.0 to 59.0% nickel (Ni), 19.0 to 22.5% chromium (Cr), 7.0 to 9.5% molybdenum (Mo), 2.75 to 4.0% niobium (Nb) and 1.0 to 1.7% titanium (Ti) by weight. Nickel and chromium support resistance to reducing and oxidizing conditions, while molybdenum improves resistance to localized corrosion. The alloy combines overall corrosion performance comparable to annealed inconel 625 with substantially higher strength after aging. Strengthening through heat treatment allows thick sections and complex shapes to achieve high strength while retaining useful ductility and toughness, without depending on extensive cold deformation.

For material selection, Arialloy recommends reviewing the corrosive medium, required yield strength and operating temperature together. Solution annealing and aging conditions should match the specified strength and corrosion requirements. Where welding is necessary, careful filler selection and subsequent heat treatment require particular attention because the final weld properties depend on the complete processing sequence.

Inconel 725 Corrosion Resistance

Inconel 725 resists general corrosion, pitting and crevice attack in chloride solutions and seawater. Its high nickel, chromium and molybdenum content supports corrosion resistance in both reducing and oxidizing environments, including selected mineral acid solutions.

The alloy also offers resistance to sulfide stress cracking and other forms of stress corrosion cracking in suitable material conditions. Performance in media containing hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide and chlorides depends on temperature, pH, concentration, sustained applied stress and heat treatment. Environmental qualification should therefore reflect the actual exposure conditions.

Inconel 725 Mechanical Properties

At room temperature, annealed inconel 725 round bar shows typical 0.2% offset yield strength of 427 MPa, tensile strength of 855 MPa and 57% elongation. Aging raises representative values to 917 MPa yield strength and 1241 MPa tensile strength, with 30% elongation and a hardness of approximately 36 HRC. These values refer to transverse specimens.

Inconel 725 Temperature Characteristics

Inconel 725 retains substantial tensile strength at elevated temperatures after solution annealing and aging. At 538°C (1000°F), representative bar tests show approximately 778 MPa yield strength, 1058 MPa tensile strength and 31% elongation. Thermal conductivity and the mean thermal expansion coefficient increase with temperature, while elastic modulus decreases.

Prolonged heating can alter the strengthening precipitates and affect mechanical stability. The allowable operating temperature therefore depends on exposure duration, sustained stress, corrosive conditions and the final heat treatment, and requires assessment beyond a single tensile test.

We generally supply inconel 725 under FOB terms. In the normal arrangement, you designate a freight forwarder, and we coordinate with them to complete the necessary operations at origin. If you would like us to take over the shipping arrangements, we can do that and confirm the additional freight cost.

Changes in raw metal markets can explain much of the movement seen in alloy prices. Superalloys contain high value metals such as nickel, chromium, molybdenum, niobium, and titanium, and their prices can significantly influence the overall cost of the finished material.

Inconel 725 production begins with materials melted in our own facility. We have over 30 vacuum smelting and electroslag remelting furnaces, including 50 kg, 200 kg, 1,000 kg, and 5,000 kg models. The smaller furnace options give us the flexibility required for low volume orders.

Yes, we provide pre shipment material test reports for inconel 725. Each report presents the applicable material standard together with chemical composition, mechanical properties, dimensions, and heat number information.

During inconel 725 smelting, we maintain precise control over the material mix and use chemical testing to monitor composition changes. Once production is complete, PMI verification is performed, with third-party laboratory analysis available as an additional option.
