Incoloy 825 Material Properties Overview

As a professional manufacturer and supplier in China, Arialloy supplies competitively priced incoloy 825 products.

Incoloy 825 (UNS N08825 / W.Nr. 2.4858) is an austenitic alloy based on nickel, iron and chromium, with additions of molybdenum, copper and titanium. Its nickel content of 38.0% to 46.0% helps resist stress corrosion cracking caused by chlorides. Chromium, present at 19.5% to 23.5%, promotes resistance to oxidizing media, while nickel, molybdenum and copper support resistance to reducing acids, particularly sulfuric and phosphoric acids. Molybdenum at 2.5% to 3.5% also improves resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. Titanium stabilizes the alloy when combined with suitable heat treatment, reducing susceptibility to intergranular corrosion after welding or thermal exposure. This composition combines broad resistance to aqueous corrosion with useful strength, ductility and toughness.

The alloy can be hot formed, cold formed, machined and welded using conventional techniques. Appropriate annealing and cooling help preserve corrosion resistance and formability. Welding consumables such as inconel filler metal 625 and inconel welding electrode 112 are commonly used, with selection based on the welding process and the required properties of the joint.

Incoloy 825 Corrosion Resistance

Incoloy 825 provides strong resistance to sulfuric and phosphoric acids, together with good resistance to nitric acid and various alkaline solutions. It also resists chloride stress corrosion cracking, pitting, crevice corrosion and intergranular attack.

Its chromium and molybdenum content improves resistance to localized corrosion compared with conventional 316L stainless steel. Low carbon and titanium stabilization help preserve resistance to intergranular corrosion after welding. Performance in acidic or chloride solutions depends on temperature, concentration, acidity and other constituents, so resistance should be assessed for the actual conditions.

Incoloy 825 Mechanical Properties

At room temperature, annealed incoloy 825 bar typically exhibits a tensile strength of approximately 690 MPa, a 0.2% proof strength of 324 MPa and an elongation of 45%. These properties combine moderate strength with good ductility. Cold working increases strength and hardness while generally reducing elongation. Its austenitic structure also supports good impact toughness.

Properties depend on product form, dimensions and processing. These typical figures are not acceptance limits; the applicable product specification governs acceptance.

Incoloy 825 Temperature Characteristics

Incoloy 825 retains useful mechanical properties from cryogenic temperatures to moderately elevated temperatures. Its austenitic structure supports good impact toughness at low temperatures. Exposure above approximately 540°C (1000°F) can cause phase formation that substantially reduces ductility and impact strength.

The alloy is therefore generally unsuitable when resistance to creep and stress rupture governs performance. Thermal conductivity and expansion increase with temperature, while elastic modulus decreases. Suitable operating limits depend on exposure duration, stress and environment; annealing temperatures should not be interpreted as continuous service ratings.

One key factor affecting alloy prices is the changing cost of the metals from which they are produced. Nickel, chromium, molybdenum, copper, and titanium and other metallic components can have a substantial impact on superalloy costs, so their price movements may lead to changes in alloy quotations.

We use controlled material ratios and in-process chemical analysis to maintain oversight of incoloy 825 composition. Finished products receive PMI testing, and third party laboratory analysis can be arranged to provide independent chemical test results.

Yes. An incoloy 825 MTR is prepared and supplied before shipment. It records the material standard, chemical composition, mechanical properties, dimensions, and heat number, allowing the material’s conformity to be verified.
