Hastelloy C Material Properties Overview

As a manufacturer and supplier in China, Arialloy supplies competitively priced hastelloy C products.

Hastelloy C (UNS N10002) is an austenitic nickel alloy containing chromium, molybdenum and tungsten. Its composition combines resistance to aggressive chemical media with solid solution strength and ductility. Chromium supports the formation of protective surface films in oxidizing solutions, while molybdenum improves resistance to reducing acids. Tungsten complements molybdenum in strengthening the matrix and improving resistance to localized corrosion. The nickel rich matrix accommodates these alloying additions within a face centered cubic structure, providing a ductile foundation for subsequent processing. This combination gives hastelloy C resistance to a broad range of corrosive environments, with performance influenced by solution chemistry, temperature and the condition of the metal.

The alloy can undergo hot working, cold forming and welding, although its work hardening response and sensitivity to thermal exposure require suitable processing practices. Carbon and silicon can promote detrimental precipitation at grain boundaries during welding. Solution annealing followed by rapid cooling helps restore the metallurgical condition needed for optimum corrosion resistance after fabrication.

Hastelloy C Corrosion Resistance

Hastelloy C provides resistance to many oxidizing and reducing solutions, together with resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking. Its chromium, molybdenum and tungsten additions also support resistance to pitting and crevice attack in suitable conditions.

The alloy resists various hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, organic acid and chloride environments, although corrosion rates depend on concentration, temperature and impurities. Welding or unsuitable thermal exposure can cause grain boundary precipitation and increase susceptibility to intergranular corrosion. Appropriate solution treatment is therefore important when evaluating resistance after fabrication.

Hastelloy C Mechanical Properties

In the solution annealed condition, hastelloy C combines solid solution strength with good ductility. Molybdenum and tungsten strengthen the nickel matrix, while cold deformation further increases hardness and resistance to yielding. As deformation progresses, elongation decreases and forming loads rise. Intermediate annealing may be needed during extensive cold working to restore ductility.

Tensile strength, yield strength and elongation vary with product form, section size and processing history, so specified values should correspond to the actual material condition.

Hastelloy C Temperature Characteristics

The thermal behavior of hastelloy C is closely related to its metallurgical stability. Exposure to elevated temperatures can promote carbide and intermetallic precipitation, particularly along grain boundaries, reducing ductility and corrosion resistance. The extent of these changes depends on temperature, exposure duration and prior processing. Solution annealing dissolves detrimental precipitates, while rapid cooling limits their formation during cooling.

Elevated temperature performance must therefore be assessed using the required exposure conditions, with oxidation resistance, mechanical strength and resistance to subsequent aqueous corrosion considered separately.

If you would like us to supply hastelloy c, send your requirements to sales@arialloy.com or complete the form below. Our sales team will review your request and prepare a detailed quotation. Once you decide to proceed, send your PO. We will issue the PI and start production after the prepayment is received. We will notify you when the materials are completed.

We generally aim to have an hastelloy c quotation ready within 24 hours after receiving your inquiry. If the request lacks the necessary information or cannot be quoted, our team will notify you promptly.

Our regular hastelloy c pricing is FOB, so buyers usually make their own freight forwarding arrangements. We will cooperate with the selected forwarder for the local part of the shipment. For customers seeking a more convenient service, we can also arrange transportation and quote the associated freight.

Hastelloy C does not have a completely independent price because its cost is connected to the raw metals used in production. When important metals such as nickel, chromium, and molybdenum become more expensive or cheaper, alloy pricing can change accordingly.

The hastelloy c material supplied by us is supported by our own smelting operation. We have a fleet of over 30 vacuum smelting and electroslag remelting furnaces, with four different batch capacities. This enables us to accommodate production requirements that may be too small for conventional large batch production.

Yes. Before shipping the hastelloy c material, we provide its test report with the relevant material and inspection details. These include the standard, chemical composition, mechanical properties, dimensions, and heat number.

We use chemical analysis during hastelloy c smelting to monitor composition while maintaining strict control over material ratios. After completion, PMI testing is conducted, and independent laboratory analysis can be used to provide additional test results.
