Monel 404 (UNS N04404) is a wrought nickel copper alloy combining low magnetic permeability, good ductility, and favorable brazing characteristics. It contains 52.0% to 57.0% nickel, including cobalt, with copper forming the balance. Iron is limited to 0.50%, while manganese and silicon are each limited to 0.10%. Aluminum, carbon, and sulfur have maximum contents of 0.05%, 0.15%, and 0.024%, respectively. This composition gives monel 404 a very low Curie temperature and a low magnetic response that is not significantly affected by processing and fabrication. Its relatively high copper content distinguishes it from monel 400, while the nickel copper base contributes useful strength, ductility, and resistance to a range of corrosive media.
Monel 404 responds to cold forming, drawing, and rolling, with strength and hardness increasing as deformation progresses. Annealing restores a softer condition and improves ductility for subsequent forming. Its good brazing behavior supports sound joints when surfaces, filler metal, and the heating atmosphere are properly prepared. Appropriate conventional welding procedures can also be used.
Monel 404 Corrosion Resistance
Monel 404 provides good resistance to seawater, fresh water, alkaline solutions, and certain reducing acids. Its nickel copper matrix supports resistance to hydrofluoric acid and selected sulfuric acid conditions. Actual corrosion rates depend on concentration, temperature, aeration, and impurities.
Resistance to one medium does not imply equivalent performance in mixed acids or strongly oxidizing solutions. Dissolved oxygen and oxidizing contaminants can change corrosion behavior, particularly in acidic environments. Assessment should therefore consider the complete solution chemistry, exposure temperature, flow conditions, and local surface conditions.
Monel 404 Mechanical Properties
Annealed monel 404 show tensile and yield strengths of approximately 70,000 psi (483 MPa) and 25,000 psi (172 MPa), respectively. Hard wire has corresponding values of approximately 110,000 psi (758 MPa) and 100,000 psi (689 MPa), illustrating the strengthening achieved through cold working.
Actual properties depend on product form, dimensions, processing condition, and thermal history. These figures provide a reference and do not replace the mechanical requirements specified for an individual order.
Monel 404 Temperature Characteristics
Monel 404 has a thermal conductivity of approximately 21 W/(m·K) and a specific heat capacity of 414 J/(kg·K) near room temperature. Its mean coefficient of thermal expansion increases from about 13.3 µm/(m·K) between 21°C and 93°C to 17.6 µm/(m·K) between 21°C and 816°C.
Heating can alter the strength obtained through cold working as recovery and recrystallization develop, depending on both the heating temperature and exposure time. The measured temperature intervals are reference ranges; permissible service temperatures require separate assessment of strength, exposure time, and atmosphere.

If the quotation meets your needs, send us your PO. We will issue a PI for payment and arrange production after receiving the prepayment. You will be informed as soon as the material is completed.
Monel 404 pricing is influenced considerably by the market prices of its constituent metals. Nickel, copper, and silicon and other metallic inputs contribute significantly to the material cost. As the prices of these raw materials rise or fall, the price of the alloy can change accordingly.
We aim to return monel 404 quotations within 24 hours of receiving an inquiry. If we need more information or cannot provide a quotation for your requirements, our sales team will inform you promptly.
Monel 404 is smelted directly at our own factory. We have over 30 vacuum smelting and electroslag remelting furnaces with capacities of 50, 200, 1,000, and 5,000 kg. This in-house production capability gives us the flexibility to accept lower minimum order quantities.
The standard monel 404 quotation we provide uses FOB terms. Normally, the customer is responsible for selecting a freight forwarder, and we assist the nominated forwarder with the local shipping work. Alternatively, we can manage the transportation ourselves if you would like a more hassle-free service and will quote the freight separately.
Certainly, an monel 404 material test report is provided before the material leaves our facility. It identifies the material standard, chemical composition, mechanical properties, dimensions, and heat number, confirming conformity with the specified requirements.
We control the charge ratios during monel 404 smelting and regularly analyze the chemistry to detect composition changes. After completion, PMI testing confirms the material, while external laboratory testing can be arranged for further validation.
